FAQ: Follow-Up Of Test Results
The following information outlines our policy with regards to the follow-up of test results.
- Your doctor will advise you of the follow up plans at the time of ordering tests.
- Results, once available, may be given by your doctor at a telehealth appointment or a face-to-face appointment.
- Our reception and nursing team are unable to give results over the phone.
- You will receive notification of abnormal results that require a consultation to manage.
- If it is urgent, you will be contacted by phone to make this appointment.
- If it is non-urgent, we will contact you by your chosen method of communication (e.g. SMS, email, standard mail). Please monitor your chosen method of communication for notification and make a follow-up appointment as directed.
- It is recommended this follow-up appointment should be with the doctor who ordered the tests, as they know why the tests were ordered and what was being investigated. This is the best practice for your health care.
- Where your tests relate to monitoring your chronic health conditions, it is even more important that your regular treating doctor who has ordered the tests follows up these results with you.
- Regular professional fees generally apply to appointments for discussion and management planning around abnormal results, unless otherwise indicated by your doctor at the time of ordering the tests.
- If you require a copy of your results, please check your ‘My Medicare’, as results become available after 7 days. If you have opted out of ‘My Medicare’, please advise your doctor prior to having the test as they can arrange for a copy to be sent to you by the provider (blood tests only).
- Due to the administrative burden, we are unable to routinely provide copies of results to patients.
