The WA Health Department has issued a measles alert for the Perth Metropolitan and South West regions.
Measles is highly contagious and is usually spread via airborne droplets such as coughing and sneezing. The droplets can remain in the air for up to 30 minutes after the infected person has left the area ie: waiting rooms.
Developing a fever and rash occurs between 10 – 14 days. People are usually infectious from just before they show any symptoms until 4 days after the rash appears.
It is important to isolate and stay at home to reduce the risk of spreading the infection.
