Since 2017, we have made it one of our goals to ensure patients have an emergency contact and next of kin recording in their file.
It is important that medical professionals know who to contact as a patient’s next of kin. This is so they can act on the patient’s behalf if for some reason the patient is unable to communicate. Similarly, patient’s emergency contacts are there to provide any information medical professionals may need to know, such as a medical history, allergies, chronic conditions & medications.
These are two very important pieces of information that have the potential to improve patient’s health outcomes and save their lives. That’s why we have driven this quality improvement project to ensure you are in the safest hands.
You can see from our graphs that emergency contact & next of kin recordings have increased significantly. This is an awesome improvement over 2 years and we are only going to keep working to get these numbers higher!
Our most recent data shows a decline in recordings. This is due to a lot of patients now choosing to have telehealth consultations and not coming in to the surgery for face to face consultations due to the Covid Pandemic. We are reviewing our procedures to counteract this current change in patient care.
